Kindergarten
Why a private school for Kindergarten?
The best time to give children an educational advantage is in their earliest years and Dearborn Christian School has delivered truly outstanding early childhood education for over 50 years. The critical and creative thinking skills fostered in our kindergarten program pave the way for the success our graduates find in college and in life beyond.
At Dearborn Christian School, students participate in special events that emphasize community, participation, imagination, and, of course, fun. Our dedicated teacher works in close partnership with our families and this partnership helps ensure every child’s success.
For children who are taking that all-important first step into a lifetime of education, there is simply no "one size" that fits all. Our curriculum bridges the important transition between home and school and emphasizes strong cognitive skills as well as social, emotional and physical development. More importantly, we ensure students meet the academic standards and benchmarks appropriate to their age, while at the same time, providing real-life applications for each lesson. Our educational philosophy goes beyond lessons and activities, however, connecting with each student’s sense of wonder and amazement.
Our student’s experiences in math, reading, writing, science, technology, art, music, drama, physical education, and health construct a foundation on which they build successful academic careers.
Kindergarten days
The Kindergarten program meets three days a week, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Optional Kindergarten Enrichment meets Tuesday and Thursday, 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Children entering Kindergarten must be five by September 1 of the current school year. Families that seek enrollment for their child born after September 1 and before December 1 may request an exception.
Kindergarten is designed to be a pleasurable learning experience, and directs the child to a better understanding of himself, his relationship to others, and his relationship to God. The goals that we strive for emphasize experiential development and self-recognition as God's children in God's world. Some of the areas we expect the kindergarten child to develop are personal, social, emotional, motor development, cognitive, language, mathematics, science, reading readiness, and appreciation of the arts.
