Field trips
Throughout the year, teachers may choose to take their students on field trips during the school day in order to reinforce some of the material being taught in the classroom. This hands-on approach to learning will allow students to get a better grasp on the information and also have fun doing it! Some of these places include: The Apple Orchard, Greenfield Village, The Recycling Plant, Co-Si Museum, etc. In addition to these field trips, we also offer extended class trips for our older students which are described below.
Science Camp
Every year, students in grades 5 through 8 spend three days and two nights camping offsite, experiencing God's wonderful creation. Science Camp is planned during a different season each year so that no two years will be the same. At least two teachers chaperone the event and parents are encouraged to help out as well. Science Camp is held at Howell Nature Center for three years and then at Wildwood Ranch Camp for the fourth. The cost of the trip varies depending upon the year.
Eighth grade class trip
Near the end of each year, the principal/teacher Mr. DeRoo and a chaperone(s) escort the eighth grade students on a three day and two night trip. In years past this event included seeing sights around Toronto, Ontario. Last year the class went to Cincinnati, Ohio. Funds for this trip are raised through an annual magazine sale starting in sixth grade.
Mackinac Island trip
Every other year, in late May, the 5th and 6th grade students look forward to their class trip to Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island. The three day trip is filled with experiencing the history of our great state, by visiting the forts and other historical landmarks. The class and parent chaperones also enjoy biking the beautiful coast, eating fudge and building memories. For the past few trips the class has been blessed by the opportunity to have a bonfire on Lake Michigan at the Balsams, just on the other side of The Bridge. The class participates in some fund raising events to offset the cost of this trip.
